Thanks to all of you who responded enthusiastically to the idea of having a conference on connections between the Black LIves Matter movement and the work for justice in Palestine and Israel. Unfortunately, I didn’t sense that we had broad enough interest to be sure of drawing enough participants to justify the cost of a regional conference organized by the Alliance Community for Justice in Palestine and Israel.
Instead, I’m going to work to pull together a local coalition here in Atlanta to organize the conference. We have several local organizations working on Palestine/Israel and well as several active Black Lives Matter groups, with some overlapping members. I believe we can organize it more quickly and at lower cost with these local groups working together. I’ve already found some key people who are excited about the idea and ready to help, including a prominent African American pastor who’s been to the West Bank and seen the light and is willing to host it at his church. Assuming we can pull it together, I’ll ask the Alliance to also become a co-sponsor and promote it to Alliance members and partner churches.
I’ll pass along details as we get organize and welcome your ideas, as well as your presence at the event. So stay tuned. Again, thanks for your support.
